From fasting to safety: improving paediatric perioperative care with POCT
The FIGS (Fasting Induced Hypoglycaemia during Surgery) study is a multicentre UK cohort study investigating the incidence of hypoglycaemia and metabolic complications in children undergoing elective procedures under general anaesthesia. Conducted across 25 centres and involving over 2,900 patients, the study aims to identify glycaemic thresholds that trigger anaesthetic intervention and to determine risk factors associated with fasting-related metabolic disturbances in paediatric surgical patients
